Renovation of a 300-year-old Black Forest timber-frame house

Tradition, reimagined: In the renovation of a 300-year-old timber-frame house in the Black Forest, solid silver fir floorboards from the region were used. The light, calm wood recalls traditional craftsmanship while creating a harmonious connection between old and new – a fine example of sustainable building in existing structures.

Renovation of a 300-year-old Black Forest timber-frame house

This 300-year-old timber-frame house in the Black Forest was renovated with great sensitivity for the building’s historical character. The goal was to preserve its original charm while creating a high-quality, contemporary living space.

A central design element is the use of our solid silver fir floorboards, sourced from the surrounding region – a material with deep roots in local building tradition. For centuries, silver fir has been used in farmhouses and timber-frame buildings throughout the Black Forest. Its light tone and subtle grain bring a calm, natural atmosphere to the interior.

Choosing silver fir is more than just an aesthetic decision – it’s a conscious commitment to working with original, honest materials in existing buildings. This approach preserves historical character while connecting past and present.

This project demonstrates how the careful use of regional solid wood flooring can create new living quality without overshadowing the old. A compelling example of sustainable renovation rooted in material, place, and history.
