High-quality floorboards made of oak

The HIRAM Habitat oak floorboards are a timeless yet versatile classic among wooden floors. Each oak tree carries its centuries-old story within, revealed through its growth rings, grain, and the unique interplay of knots. We carefully highlight these distinctive features, treating the surface with lye, soaps, and oils to create a wide range of color variations. The natural wood structure is brought to life with refined textures—sanded, brushed, shrunk or rough-sawn.

Crafted with artisanal precision, our oak floorboards are made from high-quality oak wood and come in extraordinary lengths and widths. Solid oak floorboards are available in lengths of up to 6 metres. Our engineered floorboards can be manufactured in lengths of up to 15 metres. Thanks to their hardness and durability, oak floors are an excellent choice for high-traffic areas, whether in private homes or commercial spaces.

Origin of the oak tree logs

We source our oak (lat. Quercus robur) exclusively from sustainably managed forests, primarily in the French Vosges and partially from southern Germany. Renowned for their exceptional hardness, oak trees take decades or even centuries to mature. The result is a robust and durable wood. The secret? Slow growth creates densely packed wood fibers. Patience is key—oak wood requires meticulous drying before processing to ensure its strength and longevity. The wood for our oak floorboards air-dries for up to a year before being carefully crafted into its final form.

Elegant oak wood

Oak floorboards, with their strength and density, are perfectly suited for both private spaces and high-traffic public areas. Known for their robustness and durability, oak floors last for generations without losing their timeless elegance. The natural tone of oak exudes warmth, which can be enhanced, softened, or transformed with a unique character using lye, soaps, and pigmented oils. Various textures add distinctive charm to any living space or design project. Oak is a timeless classic that seamlessly integrates into contemporary designs and current trends due to its versatile finishing options.

Individual finishing for your oak floorboards

Our oak floorboards can be customized in both color and texture to create a floor that perfectly matches your vision. The surface treatment allows for individual color design: light oils, soaps, and lyes give the oak floors a bright, airy feel, while neutral oils highlight the wood’s natural warm tones. Applying dark oils results in oak floorboards with an especially elegant finish. We also offer a variety of textures: finely sanded, lightly or heavily brushed, sawn-finish, or naturally dried.

RANDOM LENGTHS

HERRINGBONE

In a herringbone pattern, the floorboards are arranged alternately at a 90-degree angle to each other, creating a recurring V-shaped design. Floorboards in a herringbone pattern create an elegant and timeless look.

Floor Grading

The appearance of the planks is defined by the natural characteristics of the wood, such as color, knots, and other features. To ensure high-quality plank flooring, each tree and plank is assessed and sorted according to our quality criteria. Knots and other imperfections are fixed and filled, resulting in a uniformly beautiful plank surface. The images below are indicative.

Frequently Asked Questions about Oak Wide Plank Flooring

Who is oak wide plank flooring suitable for?

Oak wide plank flooring is highly versatile and well suited for both residential and commercial spaces. Thanks to oak’s natural hardness, it is exceptionally durable and ideal for living areas, kitchens, hallways, as well as offices and hotels. It creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere and blends effortlessly with both modern and classic interior styles. Oak wide plank flooring is timeless, long-lasting, and easy to maintain.

What should you consider when buying oak wide plank flooring?

When choosing oak wide plank flooring, there are several important factors to consider. Pay attention to the origin of the wood and ensure it comes from responsibly managed, sustainable forests. Select the type of flooring—solid wood or engineered planks—based on your installation height and personal preferences.

Surface treatments also play a key role: different textures and colour tones allow you to achieve the desired look and feel. The size and use of the room should be taken into account as well, as wider planks create a more spacious appearance, while narrower boards are often better suited to smaller rooms. To get a realistic impression, we recommend ordering samples before making your final decision.

What is the difference between the various types of oak wide plank flooring?

Our oak floorboards are available as either solid wood or engineered boards. Solid oak wood boards are crafted from a single piece of timber and come either as wide boards with a thickness of 28 mm or as narrower country house boards with a thickness of 20 mm.

Engineered oak boards are made from three layers of glued wood. We offer them as long boards, 16–21 mm thick and up to 400 mm wide, or as system boards with a thickness of 16/20 mm and fixed lengths of 2.95 m or 3.95 m.

All of our floors can ultimately be tailored to your personal style and the specific requirements of your building project.

How much does oak wide plank flooring cost?

Our oak wide planks are made to order, so the price depends on several factors: the type of construction, plank width, and surface finish all affect the final cost. In general, solid wood planks are slightly more affordable than engineered planks, as producing the three layers of engineered flooring is more complex.

Where does the wood for our oak wide plank flooring come from?

The wood for our oak wide planks comes from Germany and France. We source our oak logs through our own timber trading operations. All the wood comes exclusively from sustainably managed forests and is PEFC-certified.

Advantages of our oak floorboards at a glance

Robust and long-lasting

Oak is an exceptionally hard hardwood, making oak floorboards particularly resistant to wear and everyday use. This makes them ideal for high-traffic areas, both in private homes and commercial spaces. Thanks to its durability, oak is even suitable for installation in bathrooms.

A timeless classic

Oak floorboards are timeless and high-quality classics. With their warm tones, oak is one of the most popular woods for flooring and furniture in interior design. It complements a wide range of styles, from modern to rustic, while always conveying a sense of elegance and quality.

Multiple times sandable

Both our solid oak floorboards and oak engineered boards can be sanded multiple times. Whether the children have moved out, the property is being newly occupied, or a renovation is underway, sanding restores the floor to a like-new appearance. This makes our boards not only exceptionally durable but also a sustainable building material that can be renewed repeatedly without needing to be replaced.

Three distinct grades

Our oak floorboards are the only boards we offer in three distinct grades. The URBAN Classic grade, with few knots, is ideal for a calm and uniform appearance. Compared to our softwoods, oak has a very fine grain, giving the floor a particularly harmonious overall look. The COUNTRY Classic grade features slightly more knots, which can be filled in different tones to either highlight them or integrate them subtly. The RUSTIC grade has a particularly natural character, making it perfect for wood enthusiasts or country-style projects. Using a contrasting dark filler for knots and hairline cracks creates a particularly rustic effect.

Excellent heat conductivity for underfloor heating

Depending on the construction, oak achieves an Rth value of 0.11 to 0.17, indicating very good thermal conductivity. This makes both our oak engineered and solid floorboards ideal for installation over underfloor heating systems.

Varied textures and colors

Our oak floorboards are crafted in our workshop and made to order. This gives you a wide selection of colors and surface textures, precisely tailored to your individual preferences.
